20 Bars were entered to take part in the competition, customers were given score cards on which to receive a mark if they had bought a drink and been given and eaten a sample of the bar's tapas.. and at the end of the three day event, customers marked their ratings on reverse of this score card, and posted in boxes provided in Bars, with the hope of being successful and winning a weekend break.
We managed to visit 16 bars over the 3 days, unfortunately ran out of time, but we enjoyed all of the tapas.
Here are a selection of the pictures taken, in no particular order of preference!
The Ayuntamientio de Illora also provided a small train to transport visitors around the streets
- great fun for all!
Great site, we visit Illora each August and love it, we have been coming for 6 years now and didn't know some of these bars were here!
ReplyDeleteIt would be good to see a map of the town with the locations of these bars on it so we could visit them when we come in August.
Graham.
Thanks for your comments. Currently adding map locations - enjoy searching for the Bars!
Deletegreat site dawn, fantastic idea. me and my wife are on holiday in Lllora next week with our three children. can you recommend any family friendly places? also my wife and i will be celebrating our wedding anniversary too, and will be out on our own one night, can you recommend any romantic places also?
ReplyDeleteHi Anthony, thanks for your comment, hope you have a fantastic holiday in Illora!
ReplyDeleteALL of the bars welcome children,(even up to closing time) however if you would like somewhere with space in a safe enclosed environment, La Terraza is good, where, child's age dependent, they also have small scooters etc.
La Fabrica is also in a courtyard, Salon Meson Moderno has a small play park and terrace in front of bar, La Chapparilla has a lovely enclosed terrace space at rear, and La Cassatta plenty of outside space for children to run around,(serves ice creams!) although near a quiet road.
Romantic evening - in Illora, La Terraza, La Fabrica (usually have live music weekends in summer)(both serve meals as well as tapas) or out of town, approx 10km Pinos Puente on road to Granada, Restaurant Hotel Montserrat, or Hotel La Cruz de Granada
Please note these are personal recommendations only :)
Anthony, not sure if you are aware but it is Parapanda Folk Festival in Illora commencing Sunday 21st July

thanks dawn. we have arrived and are staying approx 5km out of illora, on the east side. we plan on going out for our anniversary on Saturday night. what time would we need to arrive? and which will be best, la terraza or la fabrica? ps we are both lovers of live music?
ReplyDeleteBoth are within 5 mins walking distance of each other, so check them both out,
ReplyDeleteUsually start to fill up from 11pm, but possibly only La Fabrica will have live music on Saturday evening,
I will add a new post to blog showing live music info and times for La Fabrica and other places in town, for Parapanda Folk Festival.
Have a lovely holiday!
